Meet the Summer Youth MTB Camps Coaching Team! April 11, 2015 We have an awesome crew of talented, enthusiastic riders joining us as coaches for the RMCC Summer Youth Mountain Bike Camps. They are passionate about biking and all come with significant professional coaching experience – we know the kids will have tons of fun riding and developing their skills with our coaching team this summer! Each camp group will work with one coach (professionally certified with the Professional Mountain Bike Instructor’s Association), as well as one assistant coach from RMCC’s Junior Race Team, and parents can also join in to lend some extra wheels. INTRODUCING OUR TEAM: Coach Gavin Connor Gavin has coaching certifications with the Professional Mountain Bike Instructor’s Association and the Canadian Ski Instructor’s Alliance, not to mention wicked bike skills from years of BMX, dirt jumping, cross-country and downhill MTB riding. He grew up in Canmore riding our awesome local trails and brings lots of experience working with kids, as well as an infectious passion for riding bikes to the RMCC coaching team! Gavin will be throughout the 6 weeks of our summer camps. Coach John Smits John is a top-level snowboard instructor, level two certified through the Professional Mountain Bike Instructor’s Association, and has a Bachelor of Sport Performance and Physical Activity. He’s been coaching with RMCC for a few seasons and is the Head Coach for Youth Spring Revolution. John lives in Banff and will be joining Coach Gavin for week one of our summer camps. Coach Ted Morton A true jack-of-all-trades, Ted has been riding BMX, moto and mountain bikes as hard as he could since the first time he bunny hopped a curb! His passion for mastering the skill comes from the pure enjoyment and laughter that happens every time he goes for a ride. Ted is a certified mountain bike guide, an enduro racer and a wheelie machine, living in Kamloops, BC. As a coach for the National Cadet training program, he has been coaching MTB in Canmore for the past three summers and is super stoked to join RMCC for the July U11 camps. Assistant Coaches Eva Poidevin and Kelsey Slemko are members of RMCC’s Junior Race Team and are not only amazing riders, but also awesome role models for our younger RMCC riders! We will have a few other RMCC riders join the assistant coaching team too. Christine Prescott: Summer Youth MTB Camp Co-ordinator Christine is RMCC’s Women’s MTB Program Co-ordinator/Coach and will be helping to organize the Summer Youth MTB Camps. She has been teaching cross-country skiing and mountain biking for three years and has level one certifications from the Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors and the Professional Mountain Bike Instructor’s Association. You’ll see her at the start of each camp, and perhaps as a parent helper with her son in the U7 Bike Tykes group!
