Making a Personal Donation to RMCC

Background

We are a non-profit club that is able to offer diverse programming to kids and adults because of the substantial volunteer commitments made by members.  Financial support is received from local businesses, grant funds, profits from managing races and the annual bike swap. These funding sources help defray the cost of the professional coaching and programming we deliver to our members who also pay annual dues and course participation fees.

Some community members have expressed a desire to financially contribute to our club through a donation of personal funds and have asked whether they can receive a donation tax receipt.

While we are a registered non-profit organization, we are not able to issue donation tax receipts because we are not a Registered Charity within the scope of the Canada Revenue Agency.  The vast majority of all sporting clubs in Canada are not Registered Charities.

However, we are pleased to outline how interested donors are eligible to receive a donation tax receipt for personal funds they donate to RMCC.

How to Donate to RMCC and Receive a Donation Tax Receipt

The process involves several steps.  Our experience is that it can take several months from the time funds are provided to the time a donation tax receipt is received.

Step 1. Contact RMCC’s club secretary (secretary@rundlemountaincycling.com) to discuss your desire to make a personal donation to RMCC and to confirm the process.

Step 2: Review the requirements and restrictions for making a tax deductible personal donation as set out by the Alberta Sport Connection (ASC): https://albertasport.ca/donate/

As a provincial corporation, and part of the Ministry of Alberta Culture and Tourism, The ASC supports the delivery of sport programs and services on behalf of the Government of Alberta.  The ASC issues donation tax receipts to donors.  The minimum donation required by the ASC is $250.

Step 3: Download and fill out this form: Provincial Sport Organization – Donation Fund Letter from ASC.

When filling out the form, you should state that you wish support be provided to the sport of “Alberta Bicycling Association” and for “Athlete Development”

Mail the form and your personal cheque payable to Alberta Sport Connection to the address on the form.

Step 4: Contact the Alberta Bicycling Association (ABA) at 1-877-646-2453 and advise that you have made a personal donation via the Alberta Sport Connection and its your desire the funds, once received by the ABA, be forwarded to RMCC for the club’s programming.
