We had a fantastic time at the Alberta Summer Games. I think the kids all had a great time and will have some lasting memories. Every athlete got at least one medal (individual or relay) and we had overall success as a team with 20 medals (16 individual and 4 relays). This represents 15% of all the Zone 2 medals contributing greatly to Zone 2 finishing 3rd overall in the Games. WOW! We were definitely the dominant MTB force. It will be a hard act to follow in two years. The coaches/chaperones all had a great time as well and I would certainly love to be a part of it again in 2 yrs. The kids were all really great. They were respectful and supportive of each other, other competitors and the coaches/chaperones and we were a real Team. The rain mostly held off but the couple of times it did rain the kids embraced it as a part of the experience.
Thanks to the parents who were there and helped out and supported all the kids as a part of the team. Special thanks to Jay’s mom Stephanie for doing the muddy laundry after the rain on Saturday. Also a special thanks to Guy for driving his van and trailer up to GP. With 13 competitors and 4 coaches/chaperones, it not only helped get most of the bikes up there as well as the tents and extra equipment etc but also made the logistics easier for us to support all the athletes while there.
