Another evening of fun racing was had last week at the first RMCC Mountain bike Toonie race of the season held at the CNC.
The gorgeous weather made for warm and dry trail conditions. The race was dominated by the mighty Rampagers who all completed 2 laps of the 3.5 km long course. Many had just raced the Salty Dog 2 days prior, so this was a recovery race for most of them. Not to be outdone, Marcus “I’ll race to my max again” Tondl, tried very hard to keep up with a fresh, racer onesie-equipped Ryder from Calgary. He came in second by only 2 minutes. One of the female racers left a piece of skin on the course, as an offering to the mountain bike Goddess, as this was her first race ever!! Well done nevertheless!
The Rampagers were split into their regular riding groups for the race and here’s how it ended:
Shortly thereafter, the adults (including Alaric the “Sandbagging XC Skier” Fish ) and the RMCC-R Express Team arrived on the scene and seemed even more tired than the Rampagers, so yet another recovery race was about to happen…except for Ryder who decided he wanted to race again but this time alongside Logan “Wolverine” Sadesky and Jack “Phlegm Monster” Menzies.Brittany worked the team hard over their 3 laps of the course, although I did see her end one lap early (another Salty Dog victim)!
We were happy to have the Hill family join us, representing the Cyclemeisters club from Calgary. Julia Hill, being paced by her Dad, Tim Hill laid down some blistering laps, finishing 3 laps in 35:53 for the fastest female time of the evening! Alaric pulled away from their pace group on the last lap, finishing in 34:24 to bring it home for the guys that night.
Chocolate was inhaled by all at the finish line. Also wanted to say many thanks to Nic Lemyre, Claire Lakusta, Jason Thompson and Kerry Field for helping out on such short notice last week! We couldn’t have done it without you course marshals! Thanks again to Rebound Cycle for supporting this Toonie with some great T-shirt prizes!
